🎨🐳🌊 World-Famous Marine Artist Wyland Brings His Latest Mural to Clearwater Beach This Father's Day

Clearwater Beach is about to become home to one of the most celebrated marine artists in the world, and you can meet him in person this Sunday for free.
Legendary artist Wyland will unveil a stunning new marine conservation mural at Surf Style's flagship Clearwater Beach store on Father's Day, Sunday June 21st from noon to 2pm. The public is invited to meet the artist, get autographs, and learn about the marine conservation mission that has defined Wyland's extraordinary four-decade career.
Who Is Wyland?
If you've ever seen a massive, breathtaking mural of whales or dolphins on the side of a building and stopped in your tracks; there's a good chance that was Wyland. For more than 40 years he has created large-scale public art installations around the world, including more than 100 iconic Whaling Wall murals celebrating whales and marine life. Collectively his murals are viewed by an estimated one billion people annually and are considered one of the largest public art projects in human history.
His work isn't just art. It's a mission. Through the Wyland Foundation he has dedicated his career to inspiring environmental stewardship, ocean conservation, and awareness of the fragile marine ecosystems that sustain life on this planet.
The National Controversy That Makes This Even More Meaningful
Wyland's arrival in Clearwater Beach comes at a particularly powerful moment. Just weeks ago his iconic Whaling Wall 82 mural in Dallas was painted over to make way for FIFA World Cup advertising. The destruction of that beloved public artwork sparked national headlines and a $25 million lawsuit filed by the artist.
While cities around the country debated the value of public art and conservation murals Clearwater Beach said yes. The new mural inspired by Wyland's celebrated Blue Ballet artwork features giant manta rays, vibrant coral reefs, and marine life native to Florida's Gulf Coast. It will live on the exterior of Surf Style's flagship Clearwater Beach location at 315 South Gulfview Boulevard - a permanent public landmark and a daily reminder of why protecting our oceans matters.
What You'll See on the Mural
The new Clearwater Beach mural is inspired by Wyland's Blue Ballet artwork and features giant manta rays, vibrant coral reefs, and marine life native to Florida's Gulf Coast. It's not just decoration…it's a statement about the beauty and fragility of the ocean ecosystems right outside our door here in Tampa Bay.
Why This Matters for Clearwater
Our community has been fighting hard these past few weeks to protect green space, wildlife habitat, and the natural beauty that makes Clearwater special. A world-famous conservation artist choosing Clearwater Beach for his latest mural is a reminder of something important - this place is worth protecting. Our oceans, our green spaces, our wildlife, and our community identity are all connected.
Wyland has spent 40 years telling that story through art. This Sunday he's telling it right here on our beach.
Come Out This Father's Day
This is a free, family-friendly event that makes for a perfect Father's Day outing. Bring the kids, bring Dad, and spend a couple of hours on Clearwater Beach meeting a living legend of marine conservation art.

🎉 Juneteenth in Clearwater - Celebrating Freedom This Weekend

Friday June 19th is Juneteenth: a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and a day of cultural celebration, reflection, and community across the country. Here in Clearwater and the greater Tampa Bay area there are several ways to honor the holiday and enjoy the long weekend with your community.
Clearwater and Pinellas County Events
A Sea of Melanin Beach Gathering - Sand Key Beach in Clearwater. A festive beach celebration honoring Juneteenth in one of the most beautiful settings on the Gulf Coast.
Juneteenth Celebration at The Nash Keys - 520 Cleveland Street, downtown Clearwater. Featuring special celebrity guests and live entertainment right in the heart of our city.
Juneteenth Community Celebration - Greater Ridgecrest Branch YMCA in Largo. Hosted by Friends of Ridgecrest and the Greater Ridgecrest Community — a wonderful neighborhood gathering close to home.
A Few Good Reminders
City offices, libraries, and some recreation centers are closed Friday June 19th in observance of the holiday. With Juneteenth falling on a Friday this year many events and celebrations run through the full weekend. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and connect with your community.
Happy Juneteenth Clearwater. 🎉
🏖️ Clearwater Beach Water Temperature - Summer Is Here

If you've been waiting for the Gulf to warm up the wait is over. Clearwater Beach water temperatures have reached 81 degrees. Warm, clear, and perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or just wading in. Historically Gulf temperatures peak around 85-86 degrees in late summer so we're already well into comfortable swimming territory ahead of schedule.
